Behind the Build: How MedServe Creates Secure, American-Made Solutions

Security and efficiency in medication management remain top priorities for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and outpatient facilities. As these healthcare settings navigate regulatory requirements and workflow challenges, modernizing narcotic storage has become increasingly important.

At MedServe, we developed the Flex Series to address these challenges—offering a secure, scalable, and American-made solution designed for point-of-care medication management. This modular system provides an alternative to traditional key-locked cabinets and manual logs, helping facilities improve security and efficiency.

To provide insight into the development of this system, MedServe CEO Alex Yampolsky shares how it was built, the challenges it solves, and what sets it apart.

A Smarter Approach to Narcotic Storage

The MedServe Flex Series is designed to provide flexibility and security in medication storage. Unlike systems tailored for large hospitals, this solution is built for ASCs and outpatient centers, where space and budgets are often more limited.

“What sets MedServe apart is its seamless software customization to fit any workflow, its modularity and configurability, allowing the cabinet to grow in size and capacity as the facility expands, and its affordability. Unlike most solutions geared toward large hospitals, MedServe offers a price point that makes it accessible to a variety of healthcare settings,” Yampolsky explains.

With customizable software and modular hardware, facilities can integrate the Flex Series into their existing workflows without disruption.

Addressing Challenges in Medication Security

Traditional narcotic storage methods, such as key-locked cabinets and paper logbooks—leave room for security gaps, documentation errors, and inefficient audits. Many outpatient facilities spend hours tracking down discrepancies, often due to manual logging systems that do not provide real-time oversight.

“Narcotic storage and management in most outpatient facilities are outdated. Many still rely on key-locked cabinets, which do not track who has accessed the keys or the cabinet. Paper logs are used to document narcotic activity and inventory levels, leading to frequent errors and discrepancies. These issues often result in hours spent sifting through logs to resolve or investigate them,” says Yampolsky.

By replacing manual logging with automated tracking and real-time notifications, digital solutions like the Flex Series help healthcare facilities improve accountability and compliance.

Enhancing Security with Digital Tracking

Beyond basic storage, digital medication management systems add layers of security that traditional cabinets cannot provide. The Flex system organizes medications into individual compartments, typically holding one or two medications per section, ensuring precise control over access.

“The MedServe Flex system separates medications into individual compartments, typically housing 1-2 medications per compartment. All access and activity are tracked and recorded, making it easy for management to monitor. The system also supports blind inventory checks, ensuring 100% accuracy at any given time,” explains Yampolsky.

By implementing blind inventory checks and real-time tracking, the system enables proactive security measures rather than reactive investigations after discrepancies occur.

Designed for Growth and Usability

For many healthcare facilities, adopting new technology can be challenging, especially when extensive training is required. The Flex Series was developed with a focus on ease of use, requiring only minutes of training rather than days of onboarding.

“MedServe is both modular and scalable, allowing it to grow alongside the customer. The software is tailored to point-of-care workflows, making it easy to implement without disrupting existing processes. Designed by clinicians, the system is intuitive and requires only minutes of training, unlike more complex hospital systems that require days of training,” Yampolsky says.

With scalability in mind, the system is structured to adapt as facilities grow, eliminating the need for a complete overhaul as medication storage needs evolve.

Feedback from Healthcare Facilities

Facilities using the Flex Series have reported positive experiences, particularly during regulatory inspections. One healthcare center shared its experience after an accreditation survey:

“The surveyor loved the dispensing system! She said she’s going to recommend it to other centers. It’s an awesome cabinet!”

This type of feedback highlights the increasing demand for modernized medication management, especially in ambulatory surgery centers and outpatient facilities.

Commitment to American Manufacturing

In addition to its technology and security features, the Flex Series is manufactured in the United States. Domestic manufacturing allows for greater oversight, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards, while also supporting the local economy.

As healthcare facilities continue to seek secure, scalable solutions, developments like the MedServe Flex Series provide new options for modernizing medication storage and tracking.

At MedServe, we’re committed to enhancing medication security and efficiency. Learn more about the Flex Series and how it can support your facility.
